Hope you all had fun on Valentine’s Day, no matter what you were doing- I know I did! It was really nice meeting those of you who ordered, and I also had some fun by anonymously giving out Valentine’s Day cards- you know, those kiddie cards I was talking about? I quietly left them on desks in an office I’m known in and waited to see reactions…it was SO fun! I mean, half the people plainly walked up and thanked me (apparently it was obvious to them it was me!) but it made me really happy to bring a little friendly v-day fun to their day
Unfortunately my hubs had to go out of town, so I was left to fend for myself in the evening. I decided to stick to my original plan of going to White Castle for mini cheeseburgers and even treated myself to some clam strips (why do they sell those?). I’ve been getting some flack about my plans for White Castle, but at least I didn’t participate in this:
So on V-Day every year, select locations of this humble mini hamburger chain offers table service in a ‘romantic’ atmosphere. There’s only one location in Manhattan (that I know of) and I certainly didn’t think they’d offer this service but lo and behold, when I walked in I saw this:
I have to admit that this sight totally made me smile- but what was strange was the collection of onlookers standing by the door…what, were they waiting for tables?
I got my order and took the bus home (I detest the subway). It was on the bus when I realized how um, fragrant these little sliders are! I tried to seal the bag up, but the scent of onions and cheese wafted through the bus. So much so that these people all turned around to see what the smell was all about- so embarrassing!
For dessert I gave myself a treat and got some chocolate-covered strawberries to enjoy with some of the extra/boo-boo cupcakes (yes, I still like to eat my own cakes!)
With the hubs away, I think NYC was my Valentine this year- I <3 NY and am happy to call it home!
I’m a reasonably intelligent person; went to school (most of the time), score well on IQ-type tests- so why can’t I get football? I sat at my private Super Bowl party for 2 (hubs doesn’t really watch it any other time outside of SuperBowl) and tried…tried really hard to understand what was going on. All I saw was a blur of yellow spandex and some really good commercials (love that mini Darth Vadar one!). I just don’t get it. Meh.
Well at least I got my annual fill of chips n’ dip and tiny quiches- who make these teeny things? It made me wonder if I should try expanding into tiny pies (?!).
I’m excited for this Valentine’s Day- your orders are coming in fast and furiously and I thank you all for that! I should also thank Daily Candy for tweeting about us, to Serious Eats for the lovely recommendation, and to Cupcakes Take the Cake for the nice post!
It’s not too late to get your orders in- order by Thursday for pickup on Monday!
I’m not too much of a romantic person- I always secretly thought it was a waste when receiving flowers, no matter how beautiful, and I shrug at heart shaped boxes of candy (I recall telling my first boyfriend to shove the box up where the sun don’t shine). I’d much rather share an inside joke and have great belly laughs with my sweetie assuming that he’s giving me jewelry instead of that other stuff. So I may have a slightly twisted take on V-Day.
This is evidenced by the greeting cards I used to make- did I ever mention that I used to do that? I was going through some photos and remembered that I have a stash of handmade V-Day cards that I worked on a few years ago, before CakeLab took over all my creative energy!
This was a particularly popular one:
The idea is that the gifter selects one of the hidden scratch off messages, and the recipient gets to scratch off their surprise Valentine’s message. I don’t have to tell you which card was most popular…maybe you all out there are as twisted as I am?
Ok, just so you all don’t think I’m a horrible unloving person, here are some warm-n’-fuzzy V-Day cards too:
If you’d like to add a card to your order, let me know! I’ll have to confirm my inventory, but I know I have a bunch of other designs too!

Dang, that’s 3 posts this week…well I didn’t see my shadow, so I’m going back into hibernation!
Remember those little Valentine’s Day cards you’d give in elementary school? The small, postcard type ones that looked like this?
Ok, this one is a little creepy, reminding me of that old Twilight Zone episode with the pig faced surgeons, but you get the idea…
I love those!
I think we should bring back the open hearts of our childhood and give those little guys out as adults! Imagine how good you’d feel if someone in your office left one your desk- it doesn’t have to mean anything heavy, it’s just a “hey, I think you’re…the tops?”. Ok, it’s a little corny but I think I’m going to try it this year. Carry some in my purse, leave one in my mailbox, maybe tuck one into the Metrocard reader for the bus driver…fun! Who’s with me? C’MON PEOPLE!
Well for those of you who want to make more of a declaration of affection, here are the details of my Sweetheart pack!:
